Description
Facilities to test resource recovery (RR) technologies in combination and within an operational WWTW are currently missing. Scottish Water and Scottish Water Horizons (working with the Hydro Nation Chair) are, therefore, investing in the establishment of a Resource Recovery Factory (RRF) demonstrator at the Forthbank WWTW in Alloa. This facility will test options for combining multiple RR technologies within a WWTW and explore what is needed to scale and replicate this approach across Scotland.
This presentation will demonstrate the rationale for selecting Forthbank, the pathways to the development of the RRF (including research into markets for recovered resources) and the wider place-based regeneration opportunities which have been generated by the Scottish Water commitment to the area. It will explore the opportunities to develop and support a wider circular economy which have been identified and show how water sector investment has created a focus for the development of a circular economy and renewable energy hub at Forthbank.
