Description
BI-Zen specialises in leveraging real-time data to transform wastewater treatment operations and process governance, delivering optimisation, energy savings, and informed capital planning. At a 165,000 PE wastewater treatment works, BI-Zen's Optimiser was deployed to capture granular, minute-level data across critical parameters. This comprehensive dataset revealed untapped process headroom, enabling energy-efficient aeration control strategies and a data-led approach to restore operational resilience.
By integrating advanced sensors with robust, data-led process governance, our team identified significant energy-saving opportunities and optimised aeration efficiencies for ASP and nitrifying N.BAFF systems. These interventions quantified an annual energy saving of £250,000, benchmarked and validated using high-resolution data. This unchallenged business case also demonstrates a significant reduction in the site’s carbon footprint.
Strategic insights derived from BI-Zen’s real-time data analytics has identified deferral of unnecessary capital expenditure that conventional sampling and static, Excel-based optimisation methods would have overlooked.
This is one of several similar case studies demonstrating how our expertise supports nutrient neutrality, climate-smart design, and operational strategies. Together, these examples illustrate how real-time digital advances can drive the pace of change, enabling water companies to meet AMP8 goals with a balanced focus on cost-effectiveness, environmental sustainability, and operational excellence.
