Description
The presentation will summarise the approach we have developed for Severn Trent Water, enabling the rapid identification of solutions during the combined sewer overflow (CSO) optioneering process. As part of this project, we have been working in Nottingham to firstly identify the scale of work required to achieve Zero Spills for the catchment, and then secondly to identify the feasible solutions to reduce spills and therefore harm to the associated watercourses. The project considers approaches for network optimisation, separation, storage and post-spill treatment.
The tool that we have developed identifies catchment-scale solutions to reduce spill, based on the suitability of different land use parcels and a number of other key site constraints (e.g. environmental considerations). Existing network assets are also assessed to determine opportunities for optimisation. The project will not only deliver a catchment scale solution to managing spills in Nottingham, but provides a solution for automating the early design phases, and speed up optioneering.
Also, we will outline the advances we have made in network optimisation using AI, taking learnings from the current projects and the current AI landscape.
