Description
Thames Water have been awarded £6 million to lead an OFWAT funded Water Breakthrough Challenge 1 project on “Transforming the energy balance of wastewater treatment”. The research involves an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor for COD removal followed by an EloVAC degassing system to capture biogas. The pilot plant is to be commissioned in June with aims of presenting our plans for seeding, operation and analysis of pilot plant. We also plan to present key learnings from other water companies experiences, how the pilot plant contributes to Net Zero goals, and how we envisage the cold anaerobic process being implemented into wastewater treatment in the future, whether it be for load reduction or as a mainstream treatment process.
