Description
Open Water is a photographic collaboration with local river stewardship and water testing organisations, to research the effects of microbial pollution on recreational users of the river Wey in Surrey.
The outputs are:
- a formal portfolio of river landscapes and citizen-science water testing results;
- a collection of visual research, documenting citizen science alongside personal experiences of recreational river use;
- summary factual research that supports the visual and experiential material.
Parts of the portfolio have been exhibited locally, alongside a single-sheet newspaper that summarises the work. The newspaper was also distributed to volunteers and visitors, at the charity organisation that hosts the community water lab.
The collaborative work brings to life river users' experience of what is otherwise a dry, mostly-scientific subject.
