Name
NTPlus - making nutrients circular

Description

The UK Water sector spends £500 million each year to remove £100 million of nutrients from water. NTPlus gets these nutrients back on the farm, sustainably and affordably. The UK imports all its phosphate fertiliser – recovery makes the UK self-sufficient and replaces Fe dosing, helping to achieve catchment nutrient neutrality and comply with the revised EU UWWTD. More importantly, NTPlus sustainably produces potassium sulphate, which is climate change adaption for crops. This kick starts the circular economy in agriculture and reduces agriculture’s dependence on fossil fuel products. By producing liquid nutrients, NTPlus drives agriculture to use best practice irrigation and nutrient management, reducing overall water use. This paper will present early results from the NTPlus demonstration plant due to be installed at an Anglian Water WWRP, with performance data and initial indications from re-use in field trial on irrigated potatoes and a greenhouse tomato crop.
