As the UK ramps up with projects tackling NetZero, DCC is progressing fast and seamlessly refocusing Advanced Process Control (APC) from energy efficiency (AMP7) towards NetZero (AMP8). We will describe highlights of this ambitious programme and focus on the case study of the project delivered in Nash wastewater treatment works, where CREApro advanced aeration control was installed with an initial focused on compliance and energy, alongside N2O monitoring and prediction. While the initial driver was energy, the control system goes beyond this to also reduce N2O by: -a tighter real-time control of the process, which enables fine control of process parameters benefits both energy and N2O, -specific strategies to further reduce energy through minimum aeration cycles, which in turn contribute to N2O mitigation by “N2O sink” effect, previously demonstrated on other sites.
